Today Broadway World released a quantity of photos behind the scenes of The Public’s upcoming production of ” Hamlet ,” and the critics are unanimous: daaaaaammmmnnnn .
The highly awaited product whizs movie star and Cheeto inventor Oscar Isaac as the brooding Danish Prince who sets out to retaliate his evil uncle King Claudius after receiving a letter from his murdered father’s ghost.
Here he is in recitals in a gray-headed sweater, ogling princely. Hi, Oscar! Heyyyy, Oscar.
Oskar Eustis, who recently addrest The Public’s contentious contemporary take over ” Julius Caesar ,” suffices as aesthetic director. Eustis also cast Isaac in” Two Gentlemen of Verona” in 2005, soon after the actor moved away from Juilliard, and” Romeo and Juliet” in 2007.
The New York Times’ Alexis Soloski described Isaac’s portrayal of Hamlet as” antic, mercurial, irregular ,” noting that” each front of poem approaches across clearly, roughly conversationally .” Eustis sounded in:” That combination, in particular in such a handsome husband, it’s amazing .” Truth.
The production, which is on view until Sept. 3, also features Gayle Rankin as Ophelia, Peter Friedman as Polonius, Keegan-Michael Key as Horatio and Roberta Colindrez as Rosencrantz. But, ay, there’s the rub — it is very highly, unusually sold out.
To thine own ego is correct to say, Oscar. Forever and ever.
